A Patient Success StorY
Changing His Quality of LIfe
Rich learned about the Community Free Clinic while participating in a mobile medical clinic in Charlotte in 2011. At the time, Rich was unemployed and without health insurance. Grace Liem, FNP saw Rich as a patient. When Grace realized Rich was from Cabarrus County (not Mecklenburg County), she recommended Community Free Clinic as an alternative to driving into Charlotte. Rich made his first appointment and continued as a patient until he began receiving Medicare benefits. Rich credits the Community Free Clinic with saving his life. His untreated health conditions were progressing into complication and secondary conditions were developing.
With Grace’s medical care, support for pharmacy needs, and the encouragement of our clinical staff, Rich’s health improved. He began experiencing an improvement in quality of life and plans for the future seemed possible again.
Rich continues to be a part of CFC. He now serves as a volunteer, Board member and advisory to our Patient Advisory Council. He volunteers weekly at the clinic to ensure patients who miss appointments are reconnected. He serves as a member of our Board of Directors, where he assures that the voice of the patient is considered when decisions are made. Rich is also the board liaison to our Patient Advisory Board (PAC), actively participating in their projects. Community Free Clinic is happy to have Rich, first as a patient, and now as community partner.
