Julie Stevenson is one of our valued volunteers who was encouraged to volunteer by Sue Jones, a Board of Director at Community Free Clinic. She began volunteering weekly in 2015 and has provided almost 500 service hours and 160 visits. She lives in Cabarrus County, is a wife, mom and enjoys working with senior adults. Julie also recruited her daughter, Rachel, who is bi-lingual, to volunteer during her summer vacations. Rachel’s time at Community Free Clinic was useful to her becoming more fluent in speaking Spanish. In addition to her weekly work, Julie supports Community Free Clinic at fundraising events as a table host at Festival of Tables and as a guest at other fundraising events.
One of Julie’s first memories was walking into the patient lobby to find staff and patients exercising together. Volunteering makes her feel positive, helpful and fulfilled. She stated that one thing she wishes for others to know is one shouldn’t take healthcare for granted - those of us who have insurance are very fortunate. The patients served at Community Free Clinic (CFC) appreciate and value the access to healthcare services that CFC provides. Before working at CFC, Julie was mistaken and misled to believe that everyone who needed it had Medicaid in the absence of other healthcare coverage. She is impressed with the strong commitment CFC volunteers and staff who assure that those who are uninsured have access to needed healthcare services.
She wants our community to know CFC is a very worthwhile cause and provides needed healthcare services to improve the health of our county. She said if she were a physician or healthcare professional, she would love to provide medical care for CFC’s patients. She also pointed out there are plenty of other opportunities for anyone who wants to give of their time and talent. It is a great opportunity for our young people to learn about and serve those who are less fortunate and explore various healthcare fields of study.
Julie is grateful to know so many individuals in our community who are engaged and support Community Free Clinic. She loves to see that her own healthcare providers volunteer and support the clinic. Thank you, Julie!
